Nominal is a term describing a graphic value or unadjusted posted price excluding external factors such as inflation or devaluation. A salary of $1000 is a nominal value, $970 is an adjusted value for the $1000 salary if the current inflation rate is considered in the equation. Therefore, the $1000 nominal salary should be given a raise to $1030 to compensate for the inflation rate.
