Volatility is the term describing the expected or current fluctuation behavior of prices on a given security. Volatility is the result of varying market liquidity, a less volatile market means that there is enough liquidity in the market where buyers and sellers closely match each other's needs. On a very volatile market, there is not enough balance of buy or sell orders to stabilize the price of traded currencies or other asset.
