Abnormal return

As the name implies, the expected return on investment is not met either negatively of positively. For example a fund manager managing a stock portfolio investing on technology stocks expects an 8% return on investment in one year. After a year an abnormal retrun will be met if the positive return is over or below 8%, for instance its at 12% which is a positive one or a negative one of only 1%.
