Inherited stock

A stock that is transferred to another individual when the original owner's lifecycle has ended. The new owner will only have to pay capital gains tax from the moment the beneficiary received the stock until the sale of it. This is more favorable than gifted securities. The receiver of a gifted stock pays capital gains tax from the entry price the donor paid for and not at the price when the beneficiary received it.
