Interest

Interest is a fee paid from borrowed money to compensate the lender for the time foregone or opportunity for the money to be used elsewhere. The money being loaned is technically a stagnant capital until the entire amount is paid. The fee or interest covers the time lost for the capital being idle in the hands of the borrower.
