In the stock exchange trading floor, the runner is a link that connects a broker's customer to their floor trader. Runners pass on instructions from the customer to the floor trader and returns the status of the trade to the back to the stock broker's customer if the order failed or confirmed. Nowadays runners are a rare breed as stock exchanges slowly shift from floor based trading to purely electronic over the counter trades.
