SEC - Securities and Exchange Commision

In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commision regulates the equities markets. The SEC was created by congress to control and prevent fraudulent equities transactions as well as proper procedures when an individual investor purchases a huge chunk of company shares. The President of the United States appoints 5 commisioners and will be subject under final approval of the senate.
