Short covering

Short covering is a trading practice where the trader buys the same stock it borrowed and sold to close a short position. In short trading, an investor borrows stock and quickly sells it making money if the stock falls in value. When the stock has fallen far enough for a profit, the trader buys the same stock at a much lower price to return it to the broker or otherwise, buy to cover a short position.
