Short selling

Short selling is a trading strategy employed to profit from a falling stock price. Short selling contributes to a stock's down volume. Short selling is performed by selling a stock that the trader does not own. The trader borrows the stock from a broker and sells it. When the price drops, the trader buys it back at a lower price and profits from the difference.
