Street name

Street name is a term used to describe the practice of registering held stocks in the name of the broker instead of the actual investor or trader. In the age of electronic trading and instantaneous trading, brokers usually hold the stock under their name so that when the trader buys and sells a stock within a narrow time period, the hassle of transferring the stock's owner and physical share delivery is no longer needed.
