A call option is a contract sold or written by a shareholder of a particular stock that gives the buyer of the call option the right to purchase the underlying stocks in 100 share increments. The contract states at what price the stock can be bought regardless of the current market value. The contract also states a time limit until the buyer of the contract can exercise the option (buy the stock at strike price).
