Dividend capture

Dividend capture is the process of buying the stock shares before their ex-dividend dates. The purpose is to purchase the cum-dividend so that the coming dividend has not been registered in the price of the stock. The trader will then hold until the ex-dividend date when the price drops by the amount of the dividend and then sell them when the price is back to a level before the dividend period.
