Federal deposit insurance corporation (FDIC)

Federal deposit insurance corporation is an insurer chartered by the US government to guarantee up to $100,000 in deposits. This measure is placed to improve depositor confidence and prevent bank runs. The FDIC also prevents bank failures by buying up assets or provide a loan to less financially stable banks.
