Housing starts / Building permits reports

Is an economic indicator compiled by the Bureau of the Census of the U.S department of Commerce that uses data obtained from new housing constructions. To economists, it is the first sign of an expansion and also the first one to contract when recession hits. Housing starts are typically started by low interest rates and contracted by high rates. Building permits appear a month ahead in reports than Housing starts.
