vf what does yield mean in finance and investing

Yield

Yield is the monetary return on investments expressed in percentage. If a stock is priced at $100 a share and pays a $5 dividend, its yield is 5%. If the stock goes up to $150 a share and still offers a $5 dividend, the yield will go down to 3.3% (dividend divided by its share price).
